The Foundation

The John and Lillian Miles Lewis Foundation was conceived by the Congressman to carry on the Lewises’ passion for purposeful living, civic engagement and building the “beloved community,” and to inspire and support GoodTroublemakers everywhere. We are now the keepers and the promoters of the Lewis legacy, focused on democracy and voting, youth civic engagement and building bridges. As were the Lewises, we are committed to making a difference and resolved to protect human and civil rights for all.

Marching On!

John taught us that it is not enough to take a stand—we have to stand in, sit down, move our feet… and keep marching! Congressman John Lewis and his wife, Lillian, spent their lifetimes marching for justice, fairness, inclusion and respect for the dignity and worth of every human being. They marched with their feet, with their voices, with their bodies and with their spirits, believing that others would see their passion and dedication to righting wrongs and join them.

They knew that “the harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.” They knew that it is essential that each of us do all that we can to keep marching forward. No more “someone else,” no more “someday.”

The time is now for you to march, to be a Good Troublemaker!
